Stop by Riva Reno for an authentic taste of Italy, where you will be hard pressed to choose between the gelato, sorbet, granita, waffles and crepes. Our fave flavour gelato is the “Alice” (mascarpone, premium marsala “vergine soleras” and lashings of gianduia chocolate).

Riva Reno Gelato: Darlinghurst and Barangaroo

This steamy Sydney summer needn’t get you hot and sweaty. Take this golden opportunity to trek to each of these amazing gelato and ice creameries and enjoy a refreshing scoop (or two).

The king of Sydney gelato is undisputedly Gelato Messina, who produce over 40 gelato and sorbet flavours in small batches daily. They are known for their wacky flavour combinations and equally innovative names such as the special edition “You Lychee, I Lychoo” (white chocolate and coconut gelato with coconut biscuits and lychee puree).

The most theatrical of the gelato makers, N2 uses liquid nitrogen is used to flash freeze gelato, right in front of you. Get your camera ready because not only does the steam coming out of the mixer bowls make for great Instrgram story footage, the results are Instagram-tastic, with their penchant for filling syringes with toppings that can be injected into the desert.

Hold your soft serve against the store wall, painted with clouds, for another iconic Instagram shot before you taste their famous blue Sea Salt soft serve at this Japanese-inspired ice creamery. While the Sea Salt flavour is a constant on the menu, check back in frequently to sample their rotating specials, which have included Matcha Latte, Rose, Earl Grey Milk Tea and Tofu.

AquaS: CBD, Macquarie Centre, Chatswood

If variety is your game, then Gelato Anita will have you coming back day after day to try as many of their 150 flavours as possible. Our pick is the popular Cookieman, but you should also sample the Mascarpone Ricotta Strawberries.

This family-owned inner west gelateria was winning the hearts of locals years before they took out the title of the world’s best ice cream at the Gelato World Tour in Rimini, Italy, in 2014 for their Mandorla affogato-flavoured gelato. All of their 25 flavours on offer are hand-made out the back of the store daily.
