5 Alternatives to the Gym
Unless you have a few thousand of dollars to spare each month, gyms in Hong Kong aren’t the most wallet friendly of places. But that doesn’t mean you have to give up on the thought of exercise at all (sorry, I know you were looking for an excuse). There are literally tons of other options out there to keep you in tip top shape and here are 5 of my best:
WellnessXperts Fit Club
Located in the heart of Central, WellnessXperts Fit Club is a community-based fitness group that provides weekly evening exercise sessions including Boot Camp, BoxFit, and Yoga. All classes are done in Tamnar Park in Central over looking this beautiful city we live in, you even get the chance to watch the light show while doing a downward dog. Hiking Meet Up Group
Meetup.com is home to Hong Kong’s largest organized hiking group with more than 15,000 members! They offer many varieties and levels of outdoor activities from basic hiking to bushwhacking, stream trekking and more as well as organizing volunteer service activities for worthy causes. As much as this option is not as such an alternative (you are still using gyms) It is a much cheaper one. Public Swimming Pools
Why do they have a bad stigma attached to them? My local one Morrison Hill in Wan Chai is great, always clean and never over crowded. And the best thing it only cost HK$17. Swimming works every muscle in your body. Not bad for $17. CHECK OUR YOUR NEAREST LOCAL POOLS HERE
Our favourite kind of exercise is when you are having too much fun to realise it is actually a workout. And it doesn’t get more fun than this. ‘Bounce’ is every big kids dream. Floor to ceiling trampolines, dodgeball courts, basketball hoops and flip into oblivion pits (what do you mean that doesn’t make sense? You obviously haven’t been) An hours worth of bouncing easily burns of that over indulgent weekend. And did I mention it is the most fun thing ever? Originally targeted for kids, big kids alike are taking over later night sessions and have even heard whispers of Friday night DJ sessions and adults only Bounce’s. One hour sessions cost HK$150.
