Christmas in Sydney for Kids

Christine Knight

It’s that’s time of year again when Sydney gets festive! There’s plenty for kids to see and do at Christmas time, including several completely free activities.

Myer Giftorium

Take the rocket elevator to Christmas heaven inside the George Street Myer store. There’s plenty of fun to be had for free, including face painting, a miniature train, virtual reality postcards, face painting and photo ops. For a fee you can also get a photo taken with Santa, build your own toy or buy the perfect Christmas present.

David Jones shop windows

The annual holiday windows at David Jones are always a winner with kids (and their parents, too!). This year’s theme is polar bears.

Queen Victoria Building Swarovski Christmas tree and Santa photos

The Queen Victoria Building is famous for their annual sparkling Christmas tree. With a height of 24 metres and reaching over three floors of the building, it’s a sight not to be missed. On the top floor you’ll also find one of the most popular places for a Santa photo in Sydney.

Martin Place Tree

The 21 metre tall Martin Place Christmas tree is high tech! Send a Christmas message to loved ones via text on 048 SYD XMAS and watch your message light up the tree.

LEGO sleigh

For the first time this year, a LEGO sleigh has popped up in Martin Place at the base of their famous Christmas tree. Climb aboard for a unique holiday photo.

Sydney Opera House shows

It’s not Christmas without a visit to one of the many children’s shows that kick off over December at the Sydney Opera House. This year, chose from Room On The Broom and Babies Proms: ‘Twas The Night Before Xmas presented by the Sydney Opera House, or the very festive Storytime Ballet – The Nutcracker for kids aged 3 and up, presented by the Australian Ballet.

Shangri La Hotel Gingerbread House

Executive Pastry Chef Anna Polyviou has once again created a giant life-sized gingerbread house for the children of Sydney to enjoy. Over 2,000 kilos of gingerbread bricks, 500 kilos of lollies, 100 kilos of fondant, 200 lollipops and oodles of icing have gone into creating this delicious creation.

Meet Santa at the Sydney Tower Eye

Santa is in the clouds this year! Until December 23rd you can meet Santa for free with your entry to the Sydney Tower Eye and take home a complimentary photo of your experience.
